The pointed-leaved skewer moss ( Calliergonella cuspidata ) is a deciduous moss species of the Pylaisiaceae family . It is the only species in the genus Calliergonella .

features

A characteristic feature of this species are the leaves, which are often wound upwards at the tips of the stems to form a straight, slightly piercing thorn.

The plant is up to 15 cm long and is fresh green to gold green, often brownish or reddish in color. The leaflets become 2–3 mm long and are broadly ovate and not very sharply pointed. The leaf cells are prosenchymatic , the leaf wing cells differentiated. A vein is missing or short and double.

Occurrence

It prefers to grow on wet, sometimes swampy soils. It is not uncommon to find it on moist, nutrient-rich soil and on rocks. Often it can also occur ruderally . It is found not only in Europe and the entire northern hemisphere, but also in South America, Australia and New Zealand. It's almost cosmopolitan.
