Cambronne is a high station of the Paris Métro . It is served by Métrolinie 6 .
location
The station is located in the Necker district in the 15th arrondissement of Paris .
Surname
The underground station is named after the nearby Place Cambronne . Pierre Cambronne was a French general during the First Empire . As commander of the third voltigeur regiment of the Imperial Guard , he took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 . During Napoleon's exile on the island of Elba , he was military commander there, and in the battle of Waterloo he was in command of the last square . He is famous for the mot de cinq lettres ("merde") that he pronounced towards the British General Colville .
history
The station went into operation on April 24, 1906 when the section from Place d'Italie to Passy opened. This was part of line 2 Sud. On October 14, 1907, the previously independent line 2 Sud was given up and moved to the southwestern end of line 5 (Étoile - Gare du Nord ). On October 6, 1942, the route was changed again, so that line 6 has been running at the station since then.
description
The station is centrally located along the Boulevard Garibaldi . It has two side platforms on two main tracks and is completely covered.
traffic
Initially, trains made up of short two-axle vehicles with wooden superstructures ran on the route, and from around 1910 those of the Sprague-Thomson design . In July 1974 it was converted to vehicles with rubber tires, and the MP 73 series has been running on Line 6 since then .
