Camillo Olivetti
Samuel David Camillo Olivetti (born August 13, 1868 in Ivrea , † December 4, 1943 in Biella ) was an Italian engineer and founder of the Olivetti company .
Life
Camillo Olivetti, who comes from a Jewish family, studied electrical engineering in Turin and Stanford . In 1896 he and his partners Dino Gatta and Michele Ferrero founded the company CGS, which initially dealt with the manufacture of measuring instruments. In 1904 the factory was relocated to Milan for four years until Olivetti founded the Società ing in Ivrea on October 29, 1908 . C. Olivetti & C. (ICO) founded.
In 1911 Olivetti introduced the first typewriter to the public. From then on, the ICO mainly manufactured typewriters and tools and quickly developed into a successful company. In 1933 Olivetti handed over the management of the company to his son Adriano Olivetti .
