Camillo Porzio

Camillo Porzio , Latin Camillus Portius (* 1526 in Naples , † around 1580 ) was an Italian historian .

Life

He belonged to a wealthy Neapolitan aristocratic family and was the son of the philosopher Simone Porzio . He studied law , first in Bologna and later in Pisa , and after graduating in Roman and Canon Law, he practiced as a lawyer in Naples .

His main literary work is La Congiura dei baroni ( The Conspiracy of the Barons ), a story of the unsuccessful conspiracy of the Neapolitan barons against King Ferdinand I (Naples) in 1485 . It is based on the authentic reports of the state trials, but is biased in favor of royal rule. It was first published by Manutius in Rome in 1565 . Of Porzio's other works, the Storia d'Italia ( History of Italy , from 1547 to 1552) is the best known. Only the first two books of the work have survived.
