Camilo de Oliveira (born July 23, 1924 in Buarcos , Figueira da Foz district , † July 2, 2016 in Lisbon ) was a popular actor and comedian from Portugal .

Along with Raul Solnado, he was one of the great figures of Portuguese comedy in the 20th century and was the last great living comedian of the old school of Portuguese comedy after Solnado's death.

Camilo de Oliveira came from a theater family and was already nine years old on the stage of the Teatro Caras Direitas in his birthplace Buarcos , a municipality in Figueira da Foz .

He has appeared on stage with great stars of Portuguese theater, including Beatriz Costa and Raul Solnado , and can refer to more than 71 roles in plays.

From the beginning of the 1980s, television discovered the actor for itself. From then on, he played the fictional character of " Camilo " in numerous roles , a somewhat clumsy, sometimes loud, but always funny and always good-natured grandpa who became a cult figure in Portugal. It was series like Camilo - O Presidente that showed all his skills. He also parodied important figures in Portuguese history, such as the satirist and poet Manoel Maria Barbosa du Bocage or the then incumbent President General Ramalho Eanes in 1982 , whom he looked so much like that not everyone noticed that it was a parody . Mention should also be made of the popular comedy series Sába dá bádu (1981/82), in which he was seen as the main actor in the series in numerous skits.

In 2009 his autobiography was published with the title: Camilo de Oliveira - O actor do Povo (Eng .: Camilo de Oliveira - the actor from the people). In 2011 he retired from the television business and from the stage and in the same year the public television broadcaster RTP dedicated a large documentary film to him.

He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015 and hit the headlines again in Portugal, also because of his wife, who was more than forty years his junior. He was married three times in total and had two children.

On July 2, 2016, Camilo de Oliveira died at the age of 91 as a result of his cancer in Lisbon.
