aims

According to the website, Campus for Christ was founded to help fulfill the missionary mandate of Jesus Christ in a holistic and socially relevant way. The work wants to achieve this by motivating churches and organizations to live and pass on evangelism and discipleship . The motto is: God's love in motion.

history

Founded in the USA in 1951 by Bill and Vonette Bright , Campus for Christ began its work in Switzerland in 1973. Ben and Barbara Jakob directed the plant for the first 10 years. In 1983 the management passed to the mission leader Hanspeter Nüesch and his wife Vreni, who had previously been involved in the student work of Campus for Christ Switzerland.

As a result of the missionary “Action New Life”, thousands of people in Switzerland should have come to the Christian faith from 1979 onwards. From 1985 the EXPLO conferences, which took place at irregular intervals, supplemented the activities. Up to more than 10,000 people took part in these large-scale events, which lasted several days, on topics of the Christian faith.

A total of eight Explo Congresses have taken place so far:

  • Explo '85 in Basel: "So that the world becomes different"
  • Explo '88 in Basel: "Prayer changes the world"
  • Explo '91 in Lausanne: "Meeting Christ - Serving Our Neighbor"
  • Explo '97 in Basel: "Vision, Passion, Mission"
  • Explo '00 in Lausanne: "Live God's Love - Give God's Love"
  • Explo '04 in Basel: "Forward together"
  • Explo '15 in Lucerne: "Fresh Faith"
  • Explo '17 in Lucerne: "new territory"

The Explo '15 conference brought a total of 6500 Christians of various stripes to the Lucerne Exhibition Center. In addition to the two regional churches (Reformed 16%, Roman Catholic 5%), a wide variety of Protestant free churches were represented with participants and a total of 120 exhibitors.

In the further development, new areas of work were added, for example for athletes , musicians , women or married couples and families. From 1991 the plant started operating with Agape internationally, also abroad.

In the 2000s, Campus für Christus was increasingly active in the two areas of youth and online offers and launched events and websites such as www.gottkennen.ch or www.mystory.me that deal with the Christian faith, among other things .
