Canaan Township is located in the geographical center of Athens County in southeast Ohio and borders clockwise on the townships: Ames Township , Bern Township , Rome Township , Carthage Township , Lodi Township , Alexander Township , Athens Township and Dover Township .
administration
The township is administered by a Board of Trustees consisting of three elected members. Two people are elected in the year after the presidential election and one in the year before. The term of office usually lasts four years and begins on January 1st. There is also a township clerk (secretary), who is also elected for a four-year term in the year before the presidential election. His term of office begins on April 1st.
