The 1975 Canadian Open was a professional, non-ranking snooker tournament for the 1975/76 season . They were in September 1975 as part of the Canadian National Exhibition in Canadian Toronto discharged. The winner was the Northern Irishman Alex Higgins , who defeated the Englishman John Pulman 15: 7 in the final. The highest break was played by local hero and last year's winner Cliff Thorburn with a 142 break.

Prize money

In contrast to the previous year, instead of just the winner, all participants received prize money, and a prize was also established for the highest break. The prize money was paid in Canadian dollars , but many participants were from the UK so they had their prize money converted into sterling . The exchange rate at that time was 2.88 Canadian dollars to one pound sterling.

Tournament course

A total of sixteen players took part in the tournament. In the first round, the eight professional players each met one of the eight amateurs, all of whom were eliminated directly. Up to the semi-finals , the game was played in the best of 17 frames mode , the tournament winner was then determined in the best of 29 frames mode .

As the best placed player in the Order of Merit , Alex Higgins took third place. The results of his semi-final against Graham Miles are unknown.
