Canadian Screen Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Canadian Screen Award ( French: Les prix Écrans canadiens ) is a film and television prize awarded annually in Canada since 2013 by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT), a non-profit organization founded in 1979 .

The prize was created by amalgamating the Genie Awards for film productions previously awarded by the Academy and the Gemini Awards for television productions. The award is comparable to the US Golden Globe Award due to the composition of film and television . Due to the large number of categories (22 for films, over 75 for programs) it can also be equated with the Oscar and the Emmy .

history

In May 2012, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced the amalgamation of the Genie Awards and the Gemini Awards into a new event to improve brand awareness for Canadian film and television productions. The name of the award was unveiled in September 2012 and represents the various screens used for consumption (cinema, television, computers and mobile devices). The first ceremony, hosted by Martin Short , took place on March 3, 2013 and was broadcast by CBC Television . The second award ceremony took place on March 9, 2014, the third on March 1, 2015.

Nominations

Feature films must be eligible to qualify for the Canadian Screen Awards

It does not matter whether the film is in English or French .

TV shows and series to qualify for the Canadian Screen Awards must have been broadcast on an English language broadcaster between September 1 of one year and August 31 of the next year. It is crucial for series that at least 50 percent of the series fall within this period, so that all episodes of the same season or the same production cycle can be nominated.
