Candide Thovex (born May 22, 1982 in Annecy , Haute-Savoie ) is a French freestyle skier.

biography

Candide Thovex was born in Annecy and grew up in La Clusaz . He learned to ski at the age of two. At the age of eight he joined the ski club in La Clusaz.

He turned professional at the age of just 14 and won the French championship in the moguls discipline .

In 1998 he started for the first time in major ski freestyle competitions in Riksgränsen (Sweden). In 1999 he took part in the Big Air Contest of the Winter X Games and achieved fourth place. A short time later he was best known for being the first skier to successfully cross the Chad's Gap , a 36-meter-long gap in the backcountry of the Wasatch range . He was only 16 years old at the time.

The filmmaker Kris Ostness then became aware of Thovex and made films with him. At the age of 17, Thovex won the gold medal at the X Games in Mount Snow in 2000 in the Big Air discipline . In 2003 he also won the halfpipe competition of that competition in Aspen, Colorado .

In 2010 he won the World Championship as part of the Freeride World Tour .
