Candidus Pfiffer (born September 4, 1631 in Lucerne ; † April 27, 1718 in Baumgartenberg ) was abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Baumgartenberg.

Life

Candidus Pfiffer from Lucerne took his vows on November 11, 1652 at Baumgartenberg Abbey , then studied philosophy in Vienna, was ordained a priest in 1656, and celebrated his primacy on May 16, 1656 and soon afterwards was appointed prior. In 1661 he received his doctorate in theology from the University of Vienna . In 1666 he was appointed to Säusenstein as a co-administrator for a year. In 1672 he represented the abbots of the Austrian and Styrian order provinces at the general chapter in Cîteaux .

Due to ongoing differences with Abbot Clemens Schäffer from the Heiligenkreuz Abbey , he was sent to the Aldersbach monastery in Bavaria in 1673 , where he taught theology and worked in pastoral care. He was only able to return to Baumgartenberg in 1683 and was unanimously elected prelate there after the death of Abbot Bernhard Breil in 1684.

Abbot Candidus continued to make the collegiate church Baroque, but had to stop work around 1700 due to financial difficulties. In 1693 the burned down Auhof (Bernhardshof) was restored. The estates of the state above the Enns elected him in 1697 to be ordained.
