Candlebox is an American rock band from Seattle , Washington . It was founded in November 1991 by singer Kevin Martin and drummer Scott Mercado under the name Uncle Duke . Later guitarist Peter Klett and bassist Bardi Martin joined and the band name was changed to Candlebox , inspired by a song by the band Midnight Oil . Candlebox toured with bands like Living Color , Flaming Lips , Our Lady Peace , Rush , Rollins Band and Metallica . You were at the Woodstock Festival in 1994 and made several appearances on the David Letterman Show .
history
In 1993 Maverick Records offered Candlebox a record deal. The self-titled debut album was released in the same year, the first single Change came on the market. A placement in the North American charts was only achieved with the second single You (US number 78). The big breakthrough followed with the most successful single Far Behind (US place 18). The album Candlebox sold over three million copies, and it went platinum four times in the United States.
In the fall of 1995 the much harder second work Lucy followed , which was awarded gold and just missed the top ten. In 1997, drummer Scott Mercado left the band and was replaced by former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen .
The third album, Happy Pills , was released in 1998 and tied in style with the debut album. The record sold comparatively poorly and did not make it into the charts. The released singles It's Alright and 10,000 Horses were also not played very often on the radio. Bardi Martin and Dave Krusen left the band in 1999, they were replaced by Shannon Larkin ( Ugly Kid Joe , Godsmack ) and Rob Redick.
After there were also disagreements with the record company, the band broke up in 1999. In the meantime, the band members devoted themselves to their solo projects, including singer Kevin Martin founded the Hiwatts and guitarist Peter Klett founded the band redlightmusic .
Seven years later, with the release of The Best of Candlebox (Rhino / WEA), the four founding members united on a tour of almost 70 American cities. Another tour through the USA followed in the summer of 2007. Adam Kury has now taken over from Bardi Martin on bass. In November 2007, Candlebox were signed to the Silent Majority Group , and the album Into the Sun was released a year later . The DVD Alive was also released in Seattle in September .
During a break, Kevin Martin founded the band The Gracious Few together with Sean Hennesy and the live musicians Chad Taylor, Chad Gracey and Patrick Dahlheimer . The album, produced by Jerry Harrison and named after the band, was released in 2009.
On April 3, 2012, Candlebox released the fifth studio album Love Stories and other Musings . In 2015 Peter Klett and Scott Mercado announced that they would take a break from the band due to the success of their solo project Lotus Crush. They were replaced by Brian Quinn (Fosterchild) and Dave Krusen.
