Johanathan Joseph "Candy" Candido (born December 25, 1913 in New Orleans , † May 19, 1999 in Burbank , California ) was an American comedian and actor , best known as the voice of various cartoon characters.

Life

Candy Candido had an unusually distinctive voice with which he could speak extremely high, but also extremely deep. This talent gave him a career as a radio comedian. He was known for his standing phrase I'm feelin 'mighty low , with Jimmy Durante he even recorded a song with this title. He has also performed as a singer and bassist in Ted Fiorito's orchestra. In the 1935 film Roberta he sang a duet with Fred Astaire . In 1960, Candido Bud was Abbott's tour comedy partner when he attempted a comeback.

Candido lent his voice to hundreds of cartoon characters (mostly for Walt Disney films) (mostly he was not listed in the credits ). His best-known roles are the Indian chief in Peter Pan , the crocodile in Robin Hood and the bat looper in The Great Mouse Detective ( The Great Mouse Detective ). He also worked for Chuck Jones and Ralph Bakshi .
