Music in Fists (original title Something to Sing About ) is an American musical - comedy from 1937 . The film was produced in black and white by Victor Schertzinger and Zion Myers at Zion Meyers Productions and distributed by Grand National Pictures . Schertzinger also directed and wrote the story, which was scripted by Austin Parker . The US premiere took place on September 30, 1937.

Singer and dancer Terry Rooney goes to Hollywood to star in a movie. He leaves his fiancée Rita Wyatt and his band in New York City . After filming, Terry and Rita travel on a ship and secretly get married. When they return, the film has already opened in theaters and is a great success. Terry is a sought-after star. The film studio tries to persuade Terry to sign a permanent contract, but only on the condition that he does not marry and appears in public as a single. The studio hopes to attract female fans. Rita initially pretends to be Terry's secretary, but the marriage is in turmoil due to the heavy workload. Rita goes back to New York City to sing again, while Terry makes another movie. Its female lead, Stefanie Hajos, is now spreading rumors that she was dating Terry in order to benefit from his popularity. Rita thinks he's cheating on her and revenge her marriage to him. Terry travels to New York City to win Rita back, and the two make up again.

Music in Fists was filmed at Grand National Studios in Hollywood in June and July 1937 . The working title was When I'm with You . According to various sources, the budget was between 450,000 and 900,000 US dollars . The film was re-released in the United States in 1947 under the title Battling Hoofer . After Grand National Pictures went bankrupt in 1939, the exploitation rights to the films that had already been released, as well as the music in their fists, went to Astor Pictures . In 1965, the film's copyright was not renewed, so the film has been in the public domain in the United States ever since .
