Mona Barrie

Mona Barrie (born December 18, 1909 in London , England , as Mona Barlee Smith , † June 27, 1964 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American theater and film actress .

Life

Barrie was born in London in 1909 as the daughter of comedian Phil Smith. She grew up in Australia and danced ballet in her youth . In the early 1930s she moved to New York , where she was discovered by talent scouts and signed a contract with Fox Film Corporation (later 20th Century Fox ). From 1934 at the latest, she appeared under the name Mona Barrie. After the contract with Fox came to an end, productions with Warner Bros. Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer followed . In addition to film roles, she also had several appearances on Broadway . From the late 1940s, the role offers for Barrie decreased more and more. A supporting role in John Farrow's 1953 film The Mysterious Testament was Barrie's last engagement, after which she retired from the film business. She lived in Los Angeles until her death in 1964.

Barrie was married to the Canadian Paul Macklin Bolton (1899-1966). She is buried with him in the Knox United Church Cemetery in Agincourt, a suburb of Toronto .

Honor

Mona Barrie was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles for her work .
