The vocal ensemble Cantabile Regensburg is a mixed choir from Regensburg . It presents a cappella literature from the modern era to the renaissance , in keeping with the era and style .

The vocal ensemble was founded in 1992 by Christian Preißler. At the 5th Bavarian Choir Competition in 1997 it took first place. In 1998 Cantabile Regensburg confirmed the high level at the 5th German Choir Competition. In 2001 the choir successfully took part in the world-renowned 7th International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf .

It has been under the direction of Matthias Beckert since 2002 . Since then, maintaining contemporary choral music has had a special place in the repertoire. In 2003 she took part in the International Choir Competition in Tolosa ( Spain ). In 2005 the ensemble was once again awarded the highest rating of “excellent” at the Bavaria Choir Competition and received a laudation for the best interpretation of a romantic choral work. Also in 2009 the choir was awarded the title “excellent” at the Bavarian Choir Competition, and it also achieved an excellent placement at the 2010 German Choir Competition in Dortmund. In 2011 Cantabile Regensburg was rated “Internationally good” at the 12th International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf. In 2013, the ensemble again achieved the rating “Excellent” at the 9th Bavarian Choir Competition in Munich. With a 3rd prize at the 9th German Choir Competition 2014 in Weimar and the jury rating “Excellent”, the ensemble is one of the best choirs on the German choral scene. In 2016 the ensemble won the “II. International Choir Competition Budapest ”.

Cantabile Regensburg is a regular guest in regional and national concert series such as the Stuttgart Collegiate Music, the Max-Reger-Tage Weiden, the Passauer Konzertwinter, the Musiksommer Obermain, Ars Musica Aub, Musica Sacra Grafenrheinfeld, the Basilica Concerts Waldsassen and the Münsterschwarzach Monastery Concerts. In 2016 the ensemble performed in front of 2,000 visitors in the Palace of the Arts and in the large concert hall of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest in Hungary.

With his third CD in 2009 Cantabile Regensburg presented choral works by the composer Heinz Werner Zimmermann on the record label Spektral. Zimmermann personally dedicated the work I got a robe to the conductor Matthias Beckert , which can also be heard on this CD. In 2012, a CD recording with choral works by Wolfram Buchenberg was released in co-production with Bayerischer Rundfunk . In 2016, also in cooperation with Bayerischer Rundfunk, the rediscovery and first recording of choral works by the composer Hans Koessler, born in Upper Palatinate in 1853 and especially celebrated in Hungary, followed .

The highest award of the Bavarian Singers Association , the Orlando-di-Lasso-Medal , was given to the choir with its director Matthias Beckert in 2012.
