Matthias Beckert
Matthias Beckert (* 1976 ) is a German conductor , choir director and university teacher.
Life
Matthias Beckert teaches as a professor for choral conducting at the Karlsruhe University of Music. Before that he was professor of orchestral conducting at the Detmold University of Music and professor of choral conducting at the Würzburg University of Music. He also worked at the University of Music in Hanover and as a visiting professor at the University of Music in Cracow .
Beckert studied orchestral conducting with Yuuko Amanuma , church music with Gerhard Weinberger , school music and choral conducting with a master class with Jörg Straube .
Matthias Beckert has been the director and conductor of the Monteverdichors Würzburg since 1998 . Matthias Beckert gives international concerts with the vocal ensemble Cantabile Regensburg , which he has directed since 2002. He has conducted numerous world premieres and is particularly committed to contemporary choral music. He presented first and world premieres in close collaboration with composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki , Wolfram Buchenberg , Zsolt Gárdonyi , Heinz Werner Zimmermann , Graham Lack , Josef Lammerz , Michael Ostrzyga , Alwin M.Schronen , Toshio Hosokawa and Wilfried Hiller . The composer Heinz Werner Zimmermann dedicated the choral work I got a robe to him and Zsolt Gárdonyi dedicated the choral work A day before the Lord is like a thousand years .
In 2007 he was appointed choir director of the Suhl Singing Academy and the Suhl Boys' Choir , which he directed until 2012.
He is also a guest conductor with radio choirs (including the Polish Radio Choir) and orchestras such as the Bach Collegium Stuttgart , the Hofer Symphoniker , the Jena Philharmonie , the Nürnberger Symphoniker , the Thuringia Philharmonic Gotha , the Thuringian Symphony Orchestra Saalfeld-Rudolstadt and the Vogtland Philharmonie . He works with early music ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin , the Concert Royal Cologne and the Würzburger Barockorchester. From 1999 to 2005 he was the conductor of the Pizzicato Orchestra.
Concert conducting led him a. a. to France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Hungary and Japan.
His work is reflected in radio, television and CD recordings.

- 2007 Culture Medal of the City of Würzburg for the Monteverdichor directed by Beckert.
- 2009 Awards for the choirs Monteverdichor Würzburg and Vocal Ensemble Cantabile Regensburg under his direction at the Bavarian Choir Competition of the Bavarian Music Council , forwarding to the German Choir Competition 2010 in Dortmund.
- 2010 Award of the Monteverdichors with the rating “very good” by the international jury at the German Choir Competition and win of the 2nd prize.
- 2010 choir director grant from the German Music Council.
- 2012 Orlando-di-Lasso-Medal of the Bavarian Singers Association for his special musical achievements and services to choral music (with Cantabile Regensburg).
- 2013 two 1st prizes at the Bavarian Choir Competition.
- 2014 with the Monteverdichor 1st prize at the German Choir Competition in Weimar.
- 2015 Music Prize from the Keck-Köppe Foundation with the Monteverdichor Würzburg.
- 2016 with Cantabile Regensburg 1st place International Choir Competition Budapest and price for the best conducting.
- 2018 Main Prize from the Bücher-Dieckmeyer Foundation .
