Josef Lammerz

Josef Lammerz (born June 15, 1930 in Bonn ; † January 8, 2014 in Teulada , Spain ) was a German composer , organist and choir director .

Josef Lammerz received piano and organ lessons at a young age. He was particularly influenced by Hubert Brings, the long-time Münster organist in Bonn at the time.

From 1950 to 1954 he studied church music at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf, after which he undertook private composition studies with Rudolf Petzold in Cologne and further organ studies in Düsseldorf with Clemens Ingenhoven. From 1956 to 1975 Josef Lammerz was the organist and choirmaster at the Christ-König-Kirche in Duisburg, where he built up a highly regarded choir. He was responsible for numerous performances of important works of choral literature and his own compositions. From 1961 to 1975 Josef Lammerz was a lecturer for the subjects piano and organ at the Niederrheinische Musikschule in Duisburg and for theory at the Folkwanghochschule Essen, Institute Duisburg. From 1975 to 1989 he worked as an organist and choirmaster at the Münsterbasilika in Bonn.

Josef Lammerz lived in Teulada on the Costa Blanca in Spain since 1989 . Great works ( masses , cantatas , psalms ) were premiered here. Lammerz was an honorary citizen of Teulada and in Xàtiva , the birthplace of the Borgia popes, a street was named after him. In July 2013 the world premiere of the "Cantico de las Criaturas for solos, choir, orchestra, organ" with the Monteverdichor Würzburg under Matthias Beckert was given in his presence .
