Canyon X is a slot canyon in the southwestern United States near Page , Arizona . Like the better known Antelope Canyon , Canyon X was formed by the 30 km long Antelope Creek by erosion of the sandstone . Canyon X consists of two slot canyons that are about 200 m apart.
Location and accessibility
Canyon X is located near Lake Powell in the Navajo Nation Reservation area . A sign on Arizona State Route 98 at mile point (MP) 307.8 indicates the canyon. The canyon, which is located on private property, has been accessible since 2016 as part of a guided tour that is subject to a fee. If rain has been announced, entry is prohibited due to the danger of flash floods .
Canyon X is about five kilometers from the highway and can only be reached via a sandy track. As part of the tour, transport to the canyon takes place in an off-road vehicle. This is followed by a walk of about 100 m to the first canyon. The second canyon is then reached via a further footpath of around 200 m.

Canyon X is a quiet alternative to the heavily visited Antelope Canyon and an insider tip for photographers. The erosion of the red sandstone has created extraordinary shapes and the sun falling in from above creates plays of color and light that change constantly. In the summer months, so-called “beams”, bundled rays of light, fall into the canyon at lunchtime, creating a special spectacle.
