history

On September 20, 1840, the Dortmund District Synod founded a library to support the pastors. The library of the Evangelical Church District is thus the oldest still existing library in Dortmund. In 1903 the books were transferred from the tower room of the Reinoldi Church to the Reinoldi Confirmation House. A regular acquisition budget was decided. From 1930 the library was housed in the Bodelschwingh House (Kampstrasse). Regular opening times have been introduced. Between 1933 and 1945, two pastors were commissioned to use donations to acquire literature on the Old Testament and Judaism. The bombing raids in World War II endangered the library. That is why it was moved to a rectory in Medebach (Sauerland) in 1944. In 1948 the library in the Bodelschwingh House was reopened. The church district equipped the library with employees. A systematic catalog was created. The library moved to the church administration building on Jägerstrasse. In 1987 the library was expanded to include a media library. The library with the integrated media library has been located in the Reinoldinum since 1993. Since 2001 there has been a cooperation with the media center of the city of Dortmund .
