Canzonetta
The canzonetta (plural: canzonette, canzonetti or canzonettes) was a popular, secular, i.e. non-church type of vocal composition in Renaissance Italy .
It was created around 1560. The early versions are similar to the madrigal , but are lighter in type. In the 18th century the term was used for a light secular vocal piece with instrumental accompaniment.
Hans Leo Hassler , who studied in Italy, introduced the canzonetta north of the Alps.
In 1979, the composer Frank Michael Beyer composed a canzonetta for guitar published by Konrad Ragossnig in the Music for Guitar series of Edition Schott .
