Pietro Cerone
Pietro Cerone also Domenico Pietro Cerone (* 1566 in Bergamo , † 1625 in Naples ) was an Italian music theorist and singer .
Life
Italian by birth , he worked in Spain from 1592 to 1603 and then in Naples, which was ruled by the Spanish, until his death . He was in the royal chapels of Philip II and Philip III. in Madrid . From 1603 he lived in Naples, first at the church of SS. Annunziata , then from 1610 in the royal chapel. Among his writings is an unusually long treatise entitled EL melopeo y Maestro (Naples, 1613) in Spanish . It reflects very conservative tastes and has sometimes been criticized for using other authors' texts and for outright misinformation. It remains significant, however, and it greatly influenced Spanish music theory during the 17th and 18th centuries.
