Capão da Canoa is a coastal city with approx. 52,000 (2018 estimate) inhabitants in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil . It is located about 135 km east of Porto Alegre . The towns of Terra de Areia , Arroio do Sal and Xangri-lá are neighboring . Originally, Capão da Canoa was part of the Osório municipality .
