The Cap Camarat is a headland of the Massif des Maures , on the French Mediterranean coast in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in the Var department .
location
Cap Camarat belongs to the municipality of Ramatuelle and is located in the eastern part of the peninsula of Saint-Tropez , south of the city of Saint-Tropez . It has a height of about 128 meters above sea level , is about one kilometer deep and about 1.25 kilometers wide. In front of the cape is the small, uninhabited island of Rocher des Portes (also known as l'Île aux Oiseaux ) where many birds can be observed. Among other things, the booby occurs here .
Today the cape belongs to the Conservatoire du littoral and is therefore under nature protection. It is covered with low vegetation, mainly cork oaks and holm oaks . Numerous paths lead from the beach in the north and from the lighthouse to the cape.
Phare de Camarat
At the top of the cape is the Phare de Camarat lighthouse, which is one of the highest lighthouses in France. Its light has a range of up to 60 kilometers. The tower went into operation in 1831, was electrified after the Second World War and automated in 1977.
Trivia
The French pleasure craft shipyard Jeanneau has named a series of motor boats (Cap Camarat CC, Cap Camarat WA, Cap Camarat DC) after the Cape.
