Player career

society

Ertan played street football from a young age. After his school education he became a professional soldier and played alongside this activity in turn for the military teams Harbokulu Ankara , Karagücü and Muhafızgücü .

In the summer of 1959, the first national league to be held nationwide, today's Süper Lig, was founded in Turkey and played through the first season. One of the founding members, Beşiktaş Istanbul , courted Ertan for the second season. This accepted the offer, quit his service with the Turkish armed forces and from then on played in the newly created National League for Beşiktaş. With this team he won the championship of the Süper Lig in his first season.

After playing for Beşiktaş for another year, he moved to the capital club PTT in the summer of 1962 in the dual role of player-coach , where he was active as a player for three seasons and as a coach for two seasons. He then ended his active career as a player and switched to coaching.

National team

Ertan made his international debut on November 20, 1949 in the 7-0 victory of the Turkish national team against Syria .

He was part of the first game of the Turkish U-21 national team , which was played on October 28, 1950 as part of the Mediterranean Cup against the Egyptian U-21 national team .

In the following years he played for various national teams in Turkey. For the regular national team, he completed 29 games.

He took part in the 1954 World Cup with the Turkish national team. At the end of the group stage, they finished second in the table, tied with the German selection . Although they had the better goal difference, according to the rules of the time, the group runners-up was decided by a playoff between these two teams. In this encounter, which Germany won 7-2, Ertan scored his first international goal. With the national team he also took part in the Summer Olympics in 1952 and 1960 .

Coaching career

From the summer of 1961, Ertan was active for two years at the Turkish first division club PTT as a coach and player in personal union. The 1963/64 season the coaching position was awarded to Bedri Kaya and Ertan was still active as a player for this club for a year.

After the end of his active career as a player, he paused for a season and took over PTT again in the 1965/66 season . For the next season he moved to league and city rivals Hacettepe and coached this club for two seasons. After the relegation failed in the 1967/68 season , he separated from this club.

For the new season he took over the capital club and first division newcomer Şekerspor . He looked after this club for a season.

Following his work at Şekerspor, he took over the second division MKE Ankaragücü at the beginning of the season 1968/69 . With this club he reached the championship of the TFF 1st Lig at the end of the season and thus direct promotion to the Süper Lig . He also looked after this club the following season.

In the summer of 1972 he took over the then unknown second division Trabzonspor and looked after the club for a season.

In February 1974 he took over the first division club Bursaspor and led the club to the final of the Turkish Football Cup at the end of the season . In the final they lost to Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Despite this success, he left the club at the end of the season and was replaced by Abdullah Gegiç . After one season, Ertan again replaced Gegiç.
