Cara is a female given name . It has its origin in the Indo-European language . It was adopted in Latin and Italian as well as the Q-Celtic languages and means "the dearest, the dear one " (cf. French: Cher Ami , "dear, dear friend" or Es .: cara, "dear, precious" ). In the Nordic languages, Cara is also used as an abbreviation for Carola . A common variant, especially in North America, is Kara .
