Carel Hendrik Frederik Polak (born September 2, 1909 in Rotterdam , † February 28, 1981 in Oegstgeest , province of South Holland ) was a Dutch lawyer , university professor and politician of the VVD .

Life

Studies, administrative officer and university professor

Polak, who came from a Jewish family, began studying law at the University of Leiden in September 1927 after attending the Haganum High School , which he graduated cum laude in July 1931. He then began his career as secretary of the Supervisory Board of the company Electriciteitsbedrijf Zuid-Holland (EZH) NV before it then 1934 official in the provincial registry in The Hague was where he from January 1940 to November 1946 most recently served as clerk.

In November 1946 he took over a professorship for economics and agricultural law at the Agricultural University of Wageningen , where he last taught economics , law and political science until September 1951 . Subsequently, in September 1951, he was appointed professor of administrative law and agricultural law at the University of Leiden, where he taught until April 1967.

On April 29, 1963, Polak was made a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion .

Minister and MP

On April 5, 1967, Polak was appointed Minister of Justice in his cabinet by Prime Minister Piet de Jong and was a member of this until the end of de Jong's term on July 6, 1971.

In the elections of May 1971 he was also elected as a candidate of the VVD for a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and belonged to it for two legislative periods until March 1977.

For his political merits, he was appointed commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau on July 17, 1971 .

After leaving Parliament, he was appointed to the Council of State for Special Tasks in March 1977 and held this office until October 1977.
