Caren Marks

Caren Marks b. Bayer (born September 25, 1963 in Bad Pyrmont ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2008 to 2013 she was the spokesperson for the “Family, Seniors, Women and Youth” working group of the SPD parliamentary group and since 2013 has held the office of Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Family, Women, Seniors and Youth in the Merkel III and Merkel IV cabinets .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Mellendorf in 1983 , Caren Marks completed her studies in geography at the University of Hanover , which she completed in 1988 with a degree in geography. She then worked as a research assistant at the University of Hanover until 1990.

Caren Marks is Protestant, divorced, has two children and lives in Wedemark .

Political party

Caren Marks joined the SPD in 1998. Since 2000 she has been a member of the board of the SPD sub-district Hannover-Land, since 2004 the board of the sub -district Hannover Region and since 2003 the board of the SPD district Hannover.

MPs

Since 2001 Caren Marks has been a member of the council of her home parish Wedemark . From 2001 to 2002 she was also a member of the regional assembly of the Hanover region.

She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 . As a full member of the Committee for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth , she was initially deputy spokesperson there from October 2002 to January 2008 and since January 15, 2008 has been the spokesperson for the working group “Family, Seniors, Women and Youth” of the SPD parliamentary group . In addition, she has been a member of the executive committee of the SPD parliamentary group since December 2005. Caren Marks is a member of the reform-oriented network Berlin .

Caren Marks moved into the Bundestag in 2002 , 2005 and 2009 as a directly elected member of the Hanover-Land I constituency . In the federal elections in 2013 and 2017, Marks lost to the CDU candidate Hendrik Hoppenstedt , but moved into the Bundestag via the state list.

Caren Marks has been Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth since 2013 .

Caren Marks has announced that she will not run again in the 2021 federal election.
