Carex yulungshanensis is a species of sour grass . It is a perennial representative of the genus of sedges ( Carex ) and is placed in the section Mundae . It grows in mountain meadows in the eastern Himalayas and is endemic to Yunnan, China .

features

The soft, supple and thin stems of Carex yulungshanensis are triangular and up to 50 cm high. They are bare and grow in dense clusters. The 1–2 mm wide, bare leaves of the species are flat or curled at the edge and are shorter than the stalks, the basal outer sheaths are dark brown. The bracts are shorter than the five to six- year old inflorescences and provided with long sheaths. The ears are monoecious , solitary and distant, long cylindrical and 30–40 × 3–4 mm long. The final inflorescences have one or two branches, the male part is significantly longer than the female. Branched spikes arise from a cover leaf with a fully developed female flower. The male parts of the lateral spikes are much shorter and have only a few flowers, while the female part is densely covered with numerous flowers. The flower stalks of the ears are thin, the lowest are up to 20 cm long, the uppermost shorter. The membranous male husks are purple-brown, oblong-lanceolate, 4–4.5 mm long and have a pronounced tip. The female husks are purple-brown on the sides, green and elongated in the middle. They measure 3.5–4 mm, have three veins, translucent edges and a round, protruding tip. The paper-like cover sheet is yellowish-green, tomentose, ovoid to lanceolate, blunt triangular and 3.5-4 mm long. It has two veins laterally, but no fine veins abaxially. Its base tapers to a short stem, the tip abruptly to a short beak . The mouth of the cover sheet is cut. The ripe nut is oblong-egg-shaped and 2.2-2.5 mm in size, has a sessile base and no pointed end. The stylus is basal slightly thickened, the scar is in three parts. The flat rachilla measures about 0.3 mm.

distribution
