Carl Aigner (* 1954 in Ried im Innkreis ) is an Austrian art historian and currently director of the Lower Austria Museum .

Live and act

Carl Aigner grew up in Upper Austria and studied history, German, art history and journalism in Salzburg and Paris. Aigner has been working as a university lecturer at the University of Applied Arts Vienna since 1998 . In 1991 he founded the international art magazine Eikon , which deals with photography and new media. From 1997 to 2003 he was director at the Kunsthalle Krems . At the Danube University Krems he was project manager in the cultural studies department.

In 2001 he became director of the Lower Austria Museum . From 2005 to 2008 he was also President of the Austrian Center of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Austria).

Carl Aigner is married to Sonja Aigner, managing director of the Austrian Paper Making Museum in Steyrermühl.
