Hubertus of Amelunxen

Hubertus von Amelunxen (* 1958 in Bad Hindelang ) is a German art scholar with a focus on the history and theory of photography .

Life

From 1978, Hubertus von Amelunxen studied Romance languages, German and art history in Marburg and Paris . In 1991 he taught art history at the University of Basel . In 1991/92 he was visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz , and in 1992 he received his doctorate in Romance studies at the University of Mannheim .

From 1995 to 2000 he worked as a professor at the Muthesius University for Art and Design in Kiel , where he founded the center for interdisciplinary project studies .

In 2000/01 he taught at the Philosophical Faculty of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and at the Institute for Fine Arts (HISK) in Antwerp . He became the founding representative of the International School of New Media in Lübeck . This institution was closed in 2012.

Since 2003 he has been a member of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and since 2005 the rector of the École européenne supérieure de l'image Angoulème / Poitiers in France . He has designed various international exhibitions, including Tomorrow For Ever - Photography as Ruine in Krems / Duisburg (2000). From 2001 to 2007 he was Senior Consultant Curator at the Center Canadien d'Architecture in Montreal and from October 1, 2010 to July 2013, President of the Braunschweig University of Art . However, he gave up this position early in October 2013 to take over the presidency of the European Graduate School in Switzerland, which he held until June 2018.
