Carl Albert Schiffers (born January 13, 1935 - † November 28, 2014 in Neuss am Rhein ) was a German entrepreneur and president of the IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein .

Life

Carl Albert Schiffers was the second of four children from the marriage of Erich A. Schiffers and Marie Louise Bicheroux. He was an alumnus of the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz and passed the Swiss commercial diploma there. He completed an apprenticeship as a seaport freight forwarder in Düsseldorf and Hamburg and worked in shipbuilding in London and in a ship agency in Paris. After the death of his father, he joined the family business and, together with his brother Erhardt, took over the Köhler am Büchel department store, and from 1989 Köhler market house in Neuss am Rhein.

Schiffers was a city ​​councilor in Neuss and chairman of the city finance committee from 1961 to 2009 . From 1983 to 1989 he was President of the Middle Lower Rhine Chamber of Commerce and Industry . He was also one of four vice-presidents of the Federal Association of German Employers' Associations (BDA) , treasurer of the Main Association of German Retailers (HDE) . Schiffers was for many years chairman of the board of directors of the trade association for the retail trade and chairman of the administrative board of the non-profit workshops in Neuss (GWN).

In 1968 Carl Albert Schiffers was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and on July 8, 1968 in Munich by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy, and Hermann Josef Abs , Lieutenant in Germany, in invested the order. He was last Commander of the Order.

Carl Albert Schiffers had been married to Walburga Cremer since 1958. The marriage had four children.
