Karl August Döring
Karl August Döring (born January 22, 1783 in Markt Alvensleben, today's Bebertal ; † January 17, 1844 in Elberfeld ) was a Protestant theologian and hymn poet .
Life
The son of a head forester first attended the village school, and from the age of 13 he attended the Magdeburg community school. He studied theology at the University of Halle from 1801 to 1804 , and in 1816 he was appointed pastor to Elberfeld. He was the founder of the first youth clubs . Over 1000 hymns were written by him, including Come, O Lord, come soon, you faithful! . He was married to Karoline Wilhelmine Henriette, a daughter of the Lutheran clergyman August Ernst Rauschenbusch . One of his sons was the philosopher August Döring .
Döring also used the pseudonym Theomil .
He founded the Christian Association in northern Germany , which should publish Christian writings. His writings were u. a. translated into French and spread throughout Germany, where they were distributed in hospitals and barracks.
