Carl August von Wolffersdorff , also Carl August von Wolfersdorf , (born January 28, 1691 in Quedlinburg , † December 20, 1746 in Altscherbitz ) was heir, feudal lord and court lord on Altscherbitz, canon, senior and scholastic of Merseburg , royal Polish and electoral Saxon major of the cavalry and director of the von Wolffersdorff family .

He came from the Vogtland noble family von Wolffersdorff and was the son of Johann Friedrich von Wolffersdorff , who was second married to Charlotta Christiana, nee. von Spohr was married. After the early death of his father, his mother lived with his two half-brothers Ernst Philipp (* 1693) and Johann Friedrich von Wolffersdorff (* 1685) on the Altscherbitz manor. At the age of 22, Carl August von Wolffersdorff entered the service of the Danish army in Holstein in 1713 . In the following year he moved to the royal Prussian and shortly thereafter to the electoral Saxon army, in which he was promoted to lieutenant. In 1717 he was appointed captain.

After his mother's death in 1708, he initially managed the Altscherbitz manor together with his older brother Hans Christoph von Wolffersdorff (1689–1743). On July 24, 1717, the two brothers then contractually agreed that Carl August von Wolffersdorff became the sole owner of the Altscherbitz manor.

In 1719 he was promoted to royal Polish and electoral Saxon major. At the same time he was canon in the Merseburg Abbey . A little later he retired from the military and devoted himself to his task as heir, feudal lord and court lord of Altscherbitz. His career was crowned by taking over the office of canon of the Merseburg monastery.

Carl August von Wolffersdorff married Johanna Christiana Erdmutha, daughter of the chief hunter Wolf Friedrich von Tümpling (1658–1728) from the Posewitz house (born November 9, 1690 in Merseburg; † December 9, 1742 ibid). From this marriage the two children Carl Bernhard von Wolffersdorff and Johanne Christiane von Schlegel emerged.

The later Prussian Lieutenant General Karl Friedrich von Wolffersdorff is mistakenly referred to in the literature as the son of Carl August von Wolffersdorff. However, he comes from the Ore Mountains branch of the family. Its actual parents were the manor owner Hans Karl von Wolffersdorff and Dorothea Sophia Katharina geb. von Trützschler, who married in 1708.
