Carl Brose (born May 8, 1880 in Osnabrück , † after 1914) was a German sculptor .

Life

Carl Brose studied at the Leipzig Art Academy and from 1902 to 1907 at the Dresden Art Academy with Johannes Schilling and Georg Wrba . His main sphere of activity was Dresden . At times he was based in Elberfeld . He was a member of the Dresden artist group in 1913 .

Brose designed the market fountain on Bismarckplatz in Homberg . Brose created the bronze figure “Goddess of Happiness” for this purpose. The inauguration of the fountain took place on June 16, 1913. The "goddess of happiness" was soon called "Komps Traut" by the Hombergers. That was the name of a "city famous lady". The bronze figure was dismantled in 1940 and given to the Wehrmacht as a metal donation . The fountain itself remained in operation until 1955 and was then removed as part of a redesign of Bismarckplatz. On September 8, 1990, the old fountain was re-inaugurated on Bismarckplatz with a replica of the bronze figure based on old images of the original.

Brose also created small sculptures, portrait busts and metal work such as jewelry boxes, bowls, cigarette boxes and portrait plaques, as well as handicrafts such as wall sconces, hand mirrors, bell buttons and writing utensils.
