Carl Duncker

Leopold August Emil Carl Duncker (* 1808 in Königsberg , East Prussia , † October 30, 1868 in Berlin ) was a German history and portrait painter .

Life

Duncker first studied in Wilhelm Schadow's studio in Berlin. When he was called to Düsseldorf in 1826 , he moved to Karl Wilhelm Wach's studio . He later followed his master Schadow to Düsseldorf, where he lived until the mid-1830s. In 1834 Duncker was a student of Schadow's master class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Around 1838 he stayed in Rome , later he settled in Berlin.

Duncker made his debut in 1826 at the exhibition of the Berlin Academy, where he was regularly represented between 1832 and 1840. In 1829 he won first prize at the Berlin Academy Exhibition and was awarded a medal. In 1841/42 he also exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London .
