Carl Göllner (born October 5, 1911 in Medgyes , Groß-Kokelburg County , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † December 22, 1995 in Minden ) was a Romanian historian and employee of the Romanian secret service Securitate .

Life

Carl Göllner came from the ethnic group of the Transylvanian Saxons . During the Second World War he studied on a scholarship in France. As a doctor of history, he wrote numerous historical treatises in communist Romania under the official party line and worked as a high school teacher in Sibiu . As a historian of international renown, Göllner was the head of “Research on Folklore and Regional Studies” in Sibiu and director of the “Sibiu Social Science Center”.

On July 3, 1968, he took part in the "Consultation at the Central Committee (ZK) of the Romanian Communist Party (RKP) with academics and cultural workers from the ranks of German nationality," which resulted in the Council of Working People of German Nationality .

After his files from the Romanian archives were published, it became public that Carl Göllner was working as an agent for the Romanian secret service "Securitate". Göllner conspired in Romania under the code name “Florescu” against Romanian Germans and was prepared for foreign espionage activities against emigrants in West Germany and Austria. As a long-time employee of the "Securitate" he was actively and creatively involved in the activity of informers. Nevertheless, Göllner and his family were closely followed by the Romanian secret service.
