Carl Heinrich Ludwig Hoffmann (born April 10, 1807 in Nürtingen , † November 2, 1881 in Esslingen ) was a German professor of finance and police law and administrative law in Württemberg .

Life

Carl Hoffmann attended the royal Illustre high school in Stuttgart and studied state and state economics at the Agricultural Academy in Hohenheim and at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1834 he passed the examination for the higher Württemberg state finance service and then stayed for a while in Berlin and on large Prussian estates to expand his education. He completed his habilitation in Tübingen in 1837 for administrative law in Württemberg through a disputed amalgamation of regular and honorary doctorates. There he became an associate professor in 1838 and a full professor for this subject in 1842 at the newly created chair for finance , police and criminal law.

On February 27, 1842, together with professors Johannes Fallati , Robert von Mohl and Schütz, he signed a declaration against environmentally harmful measures by the city of Tübingen.

From 1847 he was major and colonel in the academic security corps of the University of Tübingen, which consisted of around 150 students. On the occasion of the Tübingen bread riot , which had been triggered by a famine and high inflation in Württemberg, these students were armed from the arsenals of the university. The security corps put an end to the unrest after a violent attack by Tübingen looters on the Schweickhardt'sche art mill .

In 1872 he was given retirement at his request. He moved to Esslingen, where he died on November 2, 1881. He found his final resting place in the Tübingen city cemetery .

During his membership in the political economy faculty in Tübingen, Hoffmann was co-editor of the journal for political science as a whole and published various papers in it. From larger writings he has published:
