Johannes Baptista Fallati (born March 15, 1809 in Hamburg , † October 5, 1855 in The Hague ) was a German economist and professor of political history and statistics at the University of Tübingen .

Life

Fallati studied law at the Universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg . After completing his studies, he got a job with the state administration of the Kingdom of Württemberg . In 1837 he returned to the University of Tübingen as a private lecturer . Five years later he became a full professor of history and statistics.

In 1848 he received a mandate for the second chamber of the Württemberg estates from the voters of the Münsingen Oberamt . However, he did not attend any meeting and resigned that same year.

Despite the politically uncertain times , Fallati was instrumental in bringing about the reform congress of German universities at the University of Jena in 1848 . Since he himself was elected to the state parliament of Württemberg at the same time and as a representative (of the left wing) of the German Center Party to the Frankfurt National Assembly, it was not possible for him to attend this congress in person. In August 1848 Fallati was appointed Undersecretary of State to the Reich Ministry of Commerce in the Leiningen cabinet .

On December 16, 1848, Fallati joined the resignation of President Heinrich von Gagern and with effect from May 24, 1849 he also resigned his mandate as a member of the National Assembly. Still politically active, he also took part in the Gotha meeting and in the later efforts of his party for the Union in Württemberg.

Fallati later returned to Tübingen as a professor and from 1850 received a position as senior librarian at the university. He died on October 5, 1855 in The Hague during a trip to Amsterdam at the age of 46.

His brother was the doctor Karl Nicolaus Fallati (1803–1868), who practiced for a long time in Wildbad (Black Forest).
