Carl Hertelt
Christian Carl Friedrich Hertelt , also Karl Hertelt , (born January 19, 1837 in Oberwiesenthal ; † October 6, 1921 there ) was a German painter and master carver.
Life
As the son of the tailor and trader Franz Friedrich Alois Hertelt from Breslau , Carl grew up in the highest German city. In 1894 he was a co-founder of the Wiesenthaler Krippenverein. He became one of the most famous nativity scene carvers in the Ore Mountains and brought the Ore Mountains figure carving to a new bloom.
Works
In 1896 he completed the Hertelt nativity scene named after him for the Martin Luther Church in his hometown, which is still shown there today. Several of his cribs were delivered to European royal courts, such as Dresden and Amsterdam .
Appreciation
A street in the health resort of Oberwiesenthal is named after him.
