Carl Julius Dryander

Carl Julius Dryander (born August 30, 1811 in Halle (Saale) ; † February 17, 1897 there ) was a German lawyer and member of parliament.

Carl Julius Dryander comes from a respected family of officials in Halle who immigrated from Merseburg at the turn of the 17th century. His grandfather, Hofrat Dr. Hermann Benjamin Dryander, was a university syndicate. His father, the Justice Council Dr. Friedrich August Dryander (1782–1850), had been a parental lawyer since 1808 and seven years later took over the office at the university that had been administered by his father. His older brother was the theologian Hermann Ludwig Dryander (1809-1880).

Carl Julius Dryander, the second son of the family, attended the education department of the Francke Foundations and then studied law in Halle and Berlin. After the two state examinations, he was senior court assessor in Berlin. In 1843 he became the syndic of the Francke Foundations and remained in this position until 1886. He was responsible for the administration of all economic matters of the foundation. In particular, the commercial parts of the foundation, the bookstore, the Canstein Biblical Institute and the book printer were successful during his tenure. After the death of his father in 1850, he was appointed as his successor at the same time as the syndic of the pensions .

Dryander was also politically active. From 1846 he was a member of the city council and from 1851 was an unpaid city councilor. The main focus of his work was the development of the savings bank system and the administration of church affairs. For the city of Halle he was a member of the provincial parliament of the province of Saxony .

On December 19, 1892 he was made an honorary citizen of Halle. Dryanderstraße, located in the southern inner city, was named after his father, Friedrich August Dryander.

The Dryander family's hereditary burial is located on the Stadtgottesacker in arch 41.
