Live and act

Carl Oelemann was born on May 10, 1886 in Lage (Westphalia). He studied medicine at the Universities of Halle, Kiel, Berlin and Munich. In 1914 he established himself as a general practitioner in Lampertheim an der Bergstrasse. In 1925 he became a member of the Medical Association of the People's State of Hesse and editor of the Hessisches Ärzteblatt . In 1928 Oelemann settled as a spa doctor in Bad Nauheim . After the National Socialist seizure of power, as editor of the Hessisches Ärzteblatt, he came into conflict with functionaries of the Nazi medical association . As a result, the Hessischer Ärzteblatt was discontinued in September 1933 .

Since October 1945 Oelemann, who was not burdened by any membership in Nazi organizations, was entrusted with the management of the medical association for the province of Upper Hesse . In 1946 he was involved in the formation of the new medical association in Greater Hesse and in the establishment of the working group of the West German medical associations (later the Federal Medical Association ), of which he was president from 1947 to 1949. In 1949 Oelemann took over the editing of the Hessischer Ärzteblatt, which was published again .

In memory of Carl Oelemann, the State Medical Association of Hesse founded the Carl Oelemann School in 1974 for the training and advanced training of medical assistants in Bad Nauheim .
