Carl Wilhelm Eduard Oestreich (born April 18, 1800 in Spremberg ; † March 7, 1840 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German horn player and composer.

Oestreich probably studied in Dresden and had his first engagement at the Sächsische Hofkapelle Dresden . In 1826 he became a horn player in the orchestra of the Frankfurt Opera . He also became known with a concert tour through Germany. As early as 1832 he was retired for health reasons. In Frankfurt in 1827 he became a member of the Masonic lodge "Socrates for steadfastness".

He has written the majority of his compositions for horn, including works for solo horn and horn ensemble. Works for piano, various wind instruments and vocal music are also known. After Mendel-Reissmann, Oestreich also wrote an opera ( Die Bergknappen ) which, according to this source, is said to have been performed in Weimar in 1839. He dedicated some of his works to his brother Eduard, who also played the horn.

Today, Oestreich mainly performs his quartets for 4 horns and his trios for 3 horns. In 1999 the Deutsche Naturhorn Soloists recorded a CD with works by Oestreich.
