Carl Schaefer (musician)
Carl Theodor Emil Schaefer (born March 30, 1876 in Berlin , † October 5, 1954 in Leipzig ) was a German bassoonist .
Life
Schaefer attended the Reichfall Conservatory in Berlin. He initially worked as a bassoonist at the Stadttheater Erfurt , Berlin Concerthaus, Stadttheater Lübeck and the Meininger Hofkapelle . He also played in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra .
From 1899 to 1936 he was a member (1st bassoonist) in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and in the Gewandhaus Wind Quintet . From 1922 to 1952 he was also a lecturer (from 1948 professor) at the Leipzig Conservatory . His students included u. a. Werner Seltmann .
He arranged the bassoon school of Julius Weissenborn . In Leipzig was a member of the Masonic Lodge Minerva to the three palms .
