Carl Schmidt-Polex , also Karl Schmidt-Polex (* July 20, 1853 in Frankfurt am Main ; † August 5, 1919 ibid) was a German lawyer and industrialist .

family

Schmidt-Polex was a son of Philipp Nikolaus Schmidt-Polex (born February 3, 1825 in Frankfurt am Main; † November 30, 1893 there), a citizen and trader, and his wife Anna Rosina Magdalene, née Andreae (born August 4, 1831 in Frankfurt am Main; † December 5, 1914 ibid). Carl was married to his cousin Justine Marianne Melly Andreae (born March 25, 1861; Protestant); their parents were Johann Heinrich Abraham Andreae and Luise Philippine, née Winkler. Carl and Melly Schmidt-Polex had a daughter Emmy (1884–1945), who suffered from a hip dislocation, and their two sons Ede Schmidt-Polex (-Kundt) (1896–1961) and Dr. jur. Hans-Walter Schmidt-Polex (1900–1978).

Life

Carl Schmidt-Polex studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and was a member of the Corps Palatia and Rhenania . After completing his studies he settled as a lawyer in Frankfurt am Main, most recently with the honorary title of Privy Councilor of Justice .

He did his military service as a one-year volunteer in the Dragoon Regiment No. 5 in Frankfurt. Meanwhile he took part in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/1871 . On December 13, 1887, he was made a lieutenant .

In addition to his legal work, Schmidt-Polex held numerous supervisory board mandates. He was a member of the supervisory board of the bank for trade and industry (Darmstädter and Nationalbank) in Berlin, member of the supervisory board of the chemical factory Griesheim-Elektron AG (from 1914 its chairman), member and second chairman of the supervisory board of the Adlerwerke vorm. Heinrich Kleyer AG , co-founder and member of the supervisory board of Elektrizitäts-AG, formerly W. Lahmeyer & Co. in Frankfurt am Main and member of the supervisory board of Lech-Elektrizitätswerke AG in Augsburg. With the temporary merger of Elektrizitätswerke AG vorm. W. Lahmeyer & Co. with Felten & Guilleaume Carlswerk AG , he became a member of the supervisory board there in 1905.
