Live and act

Carl Spöhrer initially worked in Würzburg as a secondary school teacher and businessman. In 1875 he came against the background of advancing industrializationwhich required specialist training, with a ready-made plan for founding a business school in Calw. Classes at the newly founded private school began on May 22, 1876. In the first year, classes were held in two half-year courses as a kind of pre-school. After that, the actual business school began with four further courses. The subjects were accounting, business administration, mathematics, law and languages. A boarding school for foreign students was soon attached to the school. In 1878, due to a lack of space, another classroom building was purchased in Calwer Badstrasse. After all, the school consisted of a total of ten buildings, which were supplemented by a sports field in 1896 and a bathing establishment a year later.

Spöhrer was also a member of the board of the district, trade and trade association, member and supervisory board of the savings and advance bank. He belonged to the Black Forest Association and the Beautification Association .

For health reasons, Spöhrer sold the school in 1901 to the real teacher Gustav Weber. In 1903 he moved to Pforzheim for a short time , where he took part in a machine factory. A year later he founded a secondary school for girls in Tuttlingen , which he directed until his death.
