Carl Svante Hallbeck.

Carl Svante Hallbeck (born April 14, 1826 in Gothenburg , † December 17, 1897 in Everett , USA) was a Swedish illustrator and painter .

Hallbeck worked as a commercial journeyman until 1846 and then began studying at the Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen . After successfully completing his studies, he moved back to Sweden in 1851. In the following time he created many drawings that served as templates for woodcuts , which were then reproduced in Swedish, Danish and German newspapers or books. Ny Illustrerad Tidning , of which he was co-founder in 1865, was one of his clients . He was also present in the Svenska Familj-Journalen and in the Svea yearbook . In 1887 he moved to the USA , where he increasingly devoted himself to watercolors . At the same time he continued to make contributions to the Swedish press under the signature Svante .
