Carl Wilhelm Casimir Fuchs (born September 15, 1837 in Mannheim , † July 26, 1886 in Karlsruhe ) was a German geologist , mineralogist and botanist . From 1876 he was an associate professor for geology at the University of Heidelberg .

Life

His parents were Friedrich Fuchs and Caroline Luise Juliane geb. Dyckerhoff (1809-1872). During his studies he became a member of the Schwarzburgbund - Association of Burschenschaft Germania Göttingen in the winter semester of 1857/58 .

His testamentary donation of 20,000 gold marks (purchasing power 2011: approx. € 350,000) was earmarked for the city of Mannheim for the construction of the later Lower Luisenpark , the oldest part of today's large park. He set the same amount for the construction of his mausoleum.

In his honor there is a boulder in the Lower Luisenpark with the text: “Prof. Dr. Carl Wilhelm Casimir Fuchs, natural scientist, founder of the foundation for the Luisenpark, 1837 - 1886 ”.

The inscription on his honorary grave in the mausoleum in Mannheim's main cemetery reads: “To the honored fellow citizen resting here, Professor Dr. Karl Wilh. Kasimir Fuchs keeps grateful memories of 'The City of Mannheim'.
