Carlo Conti (politician, 1954)

Carlo Conti (born February 1, 1954 in Basel ) is a Swiss lawyer and former politician ( CVP ). From 2000 to 2014 he was a member of the government of the canton of Basel-Stadt and head of the health department (until 2005 the medical department).

Life

Conti was the 1973 Matura at the Basel commercial high school and studied it to 1978 jurisprudence at the University of Basel . After he was admitted to the bar in 1982, he worked as such until 1985. Until 2000 he was employed at Hoffmann-La Roche as head of the legal department. Conti is married and has three children.

politics

Conti became politically active in 1978 when he became managing director of CVP Basel-Stadt. From 1983 to 1992 and from 1997 to 2000 he represented the CVP in the Grand Council . From 1991 to 1999 he was President of the CVP Basel-Stadt. In 2000 he was elected to the government council and confirmed in office in 2004, 2008 and 2012. From 2011 until his resignation in 2014, he chaired the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Health Directors .

On January 7, 2014, he informed the public about inaccuracies in the settlement of fees totaling 111,000 francs drawn since 2005 and surprisingly announced his resignation at the end of July. The fraud proceedings subsequently opened by the Basel-Stadt public prosecutor's office were discontinued in April 2015, as the investigations showed that the offense of fraud was not fulfilled and Conti had in the meantime completely repaired the damage.

Further professional activity

In mid-July 2014, Conti was elected to the Board of Directors of the RehaClinic Group. Since August 2014 he has been a consultant at the Basel law firm Wenger Plattner. In mid-August 2014, Conti became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pain Clinic Basel AG (part of the Genolier Swiss Medical Network SA private clinic group ). Conti has also been President of Basel Tourism since June 2015.
