Carlo Lejeune (also Karl ; born October 5, 1963 ) is a German-speaking Belgian historian .

Life

Carlo Lejeune grew up in the Belgian Eifel and attended the Episcopal School in St. Vith from 1975 to 1981 .

He then studied at the universities of Louvain-la-Neuve , Bonn and Cologne . He wrote his dissertation at the University of Trier on German-Belgian cultural relations 1925–1980 . After a traineeship at the Georg von Holtzbrinck School for Business Journalists in Düsseldorf and a job as a business journalist for the Handelsblatt , he returned to the Belgian Eifel in 1993 and works there as a high school teacher and journalist , as a lecturer at the Autonomous University in the German-speaking Community of Belgium (AHS) and since 2014 as head of the Center for East Belgian History (ZOG).

In his mostly historical works he worked on three main areas: everyday history, German-Belgian relations and the history of the German-speaking community in Belgium.

In 2014, Lejeune was awarded the Anton-Hecking-Schild from the History and Museum Association Between Venn and Schneifel (ZVS) for his services. In addition, Lejeune received the Parliament's Prize for Outstanding Works in German for three of his writings : 1991 for The German-Belgian Cultural Relations 1925–1980 - Paths to European Integration? , 1997 for living and celebrating in the country. The customs of the Belgian Eifel and 2006 for The Cleansing (Volume 1) Disenchantment, Liberation, Uncertainty (1920–1945) .
